The Customer

Our customer is Indonesia’s leading digital lending company providing affordable, unsecured personal loans for consumers – permitted by the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK). Service offerings range from helping customers in borrowing funds online to online billing transactions.

To date, 70% of its digital credit loans have been used for life improvement, such as business capital, renovation, healthcare and education purposes. Being one of the top credit service providers in Indonesia, the key objective of the customer was to migrate towards a Database system that is highly efficient, scalable, and works with a faster response time.

Business Challenges

The customer was using a community version of PostgreSQL with a massive amount of active data. They needed the servers to be highly reliable while ensuring to meet industry best practice standards for their existing PostgreSQL configurations. The customer wanted to ensure the servers are able to scale per business growth and demand, owing to an increased database size in the future.

The customer had a single database running 7 application servers containing over 6 TB of data – thus affecting the query performance and latency when receiving data from the database. They had different computing powers on each database node, which was becoming a roadblock in performing a database failover.

The customer faced CPU spikes in their database server within the production/office hours plus the PostgreSQL streaming replication was delayed – making their standby server to go out of sync from its master database. Thats why, enabling a setup to handle faster response time was getting critical.

One challenge that additionally Ashnik had to tackle was to convince and instill confidence in the customer that this solution would be provided completely remote rather than face-to-face, and ensure that we deliver a winning solution.

To start with, Ashnik conducted an AHC (Architectural Health Check), to gather and assess the database configuration. We provided recommendations on the best practices so that they can make the needed improvements to their database server.

The process involved recommending better configurations for the operating system and the database environment so that the system could perform better and smooth. As part of the AHC process and services (availing Ashnik Flexi Pack for 12 Man Days), we did an analysis and review of their Postgres database instances, based on which recommendations were provided for their system to be optimally configured and tuned to their current needs.

Finally, Ashnik’s Postgres experts provided operational support along with guidance on user experience and consultation for maximised results.
