The Position

We are looking for an experienced L2 Kafka Administrator to join our 24×7 managed services team. The ideal candidate will provide second-level support for our large Kafka cluster, addressing complex issues, optimizing performance, and ensuring the reliability of our Kafka infrastructure. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Kafka and strong analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of Industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for Kafka-related issues escalated from L1 support.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and implement long-term solutions.
  • Optimize Kafka cluster performance, including tuning configurations and managing resource utilization.
  • Implement and manage Kafka security configurations, including SSL/TLS, Kerberos, and ACLs.
  • Collaborate with Kafka Architect and other team members to plan and execute cluster upgrades and scaling operations.
  • Develop and maintain operational scripts for automation and monitoring purposes.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for Kafka operations and support procedures.
  • Mentor and train L1 support staff to improve their troubleshooting skills and knowledge of Kafka.
  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs) and operational best practices.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24×7 support coverage.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Kafka Administrator or in a similar role, with strong knowledge of Confluent Kafka.
  • Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with other messaging systems like RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ.
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and DevOps practices.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana).
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and task management.
  • In-depth understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
  • Experience with Kafka security implementations (SSL/TLS, Kerberos).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a 24×7 shift environment as part of an on-call rotation.
