Look at how Countries are now adopting innovative digital initiatives.

Isn’t it a recognized fact that today Organisations are emphatically adopting digital transformation or are pipe-lining it? Simply to take the next step towards growth, outdo their competition or better consumer experience. So why should Nations stay on the back burner?
Not just Singapore but many more countries are now revolutionizing themselves and peddling up digital initiatives among their various sectors in order to stay in the race of being technologically armed and improvise the lives of its people.
You must have heard of Digital India, the campaign India launched in 2015 with the aim to make the country more technology efficient and also to bring it at par with the world. New tech initiatives by many start-ups and established organisations alike, are trying to achieve this vision and contribute in their own little-big ways.
Just a few weeks back, I read how Google seeing potential in the Indian economy and its businesses decided to launch a new digital payment app ‘Tez’ in India. Taking India closer to digital transformation, says Google’s CEO Pichai. The app allows users, free of charge, to make small or big payments straight from their bank accounts. The app was designed exclusively for India, works on majority of the country’s smartphones and is available in English and 7 other Indian languages.
Meanwhile, United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been also working towards becoming a connected smart country with digitised economy – by unifying their physical and online worlds to transform the lives of residents and tourists alike.
It launched a ‘Dubai Now’ portal for citizens and residents – a platform intended as a one-stop shop for all government services in the emirate of Dubai. Covering all categories such as – security and justice, public transport, payments and bills, visas and residence, driving, health, business and employment, education, housing, etc. Basically, it’s been designed to make these organisations’ services available to the entire city from a single integrated platform. Pretty cool!
Another example: It is heavily incorporating IoT into public infrastructure to make the city user-centric. Dubai last year launched its connected city lighting solutions, the industry’s first IoT lighting system with intelligent control. It connects street lamps to IoT and adopts a GIS-based management system, enabling cities to enhance the control and performance of every street lamp – among other things, it allows on-demand lighting and helps reduce energy consumption by up to 80%
Here’s some more matter on how they are creating the city of the future!
Agriculture is one of the largest revenue initiator in Africa, and now innovative technologies are increasingly modernising that sector to improve the livelihoods of its large farming community. For instance – Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) makes use of IoT solutions to track about 5 million bags of coffee through all stages of supply chain and aims to extend this solution to support 5 million farmers across the country, ensuring that Ethiopian farmers are better equipped and competent. In turn, aiming to improvise their coffee export revenues.
Also, interesting to know how Rwanda (an East African country) has launched the world’s first national drone delivery system, which will be used to deliver blood to patients in remote areas of the country. It aims to make 50 to 150 deliveries of blood a day to 21 transfusing facilities in the western part of the country. Rwanda is now also building a drone airport (first of a commercial kind in the world) scheduled to be completed in 2020.

As we move further into DX, the gap between those who have adopted – and those who didn’t – will continue to widen speedily. The need of the hour is to get creative in considering new ways to use tech to reach and exceed business goals.
